Noodles Yoshida Kyoto – A Hidden Gem with Unique Ramen Styles

Tucked away in South Kyoto, Noodles Yoshida (麺心 よし田) is a true hidden gem for ramen fans. This shop takes things in an innovative direction, offering bold flavors and variety.

Noodles Yoshida - A Big Variety of Ramen

Noodles Yoshida's menu features not just one standout bowl, but three distinct types of ramen, each with its own personality.

Ladling Tsukemen Soup at Noodles Yoshida

From a silky chicken-based ramen to a layered dipping ramen, and a fish-based soupless aemen, Noodles Yoshida delivers serious flavor across the board. I recently visited to try their three signature dishes, and here's what stood out:

1. Signature Chicken Ramen – Silky & Comforting

At first glance, I expected this bowl to be on the heavier side, but instead, it delivered a smooth, well-balanced broth packed with comforting chicken flavors. It's rich yet refined, with a peppery kick that keeps things interesting.

The toppings (when you order with all toppings) bring extra indulgence. Generous slices of chicken and pork chashu make this a satisfying meal without overwhelming the palate. If you’re looking for a chicken ramen that’s both hearty and easy to enjoy, this one is a winner.

2. Tsukemen – A Deep, Layered Dipping Experience

Next up is their tsukemen (dipping ramen), which takes things up a notch in richness and complexity. The broth is a blend of chicken and fish, offering a deep umami hit with a more concentrated consistency for dipping.

Tsukemen like a Course Meal

The noodles are a standout feature—thicker, with whole wheat flecks, giving them an amazing bounce and chew. What I loved most was the range of condiments that come with it, letting you customize each bite for an almost course meal-like experience.

3. Aemen (Soupless Ramen) – Punchy and My Favorite

Finally, we have the aemen, which ended up being my favorite. Most soupless ramen lean towards a pork-heavy base. But this one breaks the mold with a strong fish-forward flavor (mackerel is the base). The mix of garlic, creamy egg yolk, and massive cubes of pork chashu delivers a powerful, umami-packed bite every time.

Aemen Soupless Ramen

It’s a must-try for those who love bold flavors, and the texture of the thicker noodles (same as in the tsukemen) makes it even better.

Final Thoughts

Noodles Yoshida is a must-visit for ramen fans in Kyoto. Unlike many shops that specialize in just one style, they offer a diverse range of ramen. Each one is crafted with care and packed with unique flavors.

Inside the Kitchen

Whether you’re in the mood for a silky chicken ramen, a deep and rich tsukemen, or a bold, soupless aemen, this shop has something special to offer. If you're hunting for a hidden ramen gem in Kyoto, Noodles Yoshida deserves a spot on your list.
