Dad’s Ramen – Based on a Dream?
Dad’s Ramen (夢にでてきた中華そば) in Jiyugaoka isn’t your average ramen shop—and not just because it’s nestled in one of Tokyo’s poshest neighborhoods. The name hints at something more emotional: the owner once had a dream about making ramen with his father.

That dream stuck with him, and eventually, it became a ramen shop—personal, warm, and serving up a bowl I thoroughly enjoyed.
A Cozy Shop with Showbiz Energy
Inside, the space is cozy and full of personality. Lining the walls are photos of the owner with various comedians and entertainers—turns out he was once in the comedy world himself. Before opening Dad’s Ramen, he also ran (and still operates) ramen spots like NiboNiboCino.

This background gives the shop a fun, lived-in energy. It’s not trying to be minimalist or overly stylized—it’s a space with a story, just like the ramen itself.
A Well-Balanced, Fish-Forward Bowl
I ordered their signature bowl and honestly, thoroughly enjoyed it.

The broth is a blend of niboshi (dried fish) and chicken, and it’s done with real finesse. It’s clearly fish-forward, but not in an overly bitter or overpowering way. There’s a slight bitterness from the niboshi—expected—but it’s kept in check. The chicken adds a soft landing, rounding out the edges and creating something balanced, clean, and drinkable.

The noodles are thin and firm, perfectly suited to the broth. And the toppings—wow. Spring onions and raw onions help break up the richness and bitterness, while the standout ingredients are the ultra-soft pork chashu and delicate slices of wagyu beef. The wagyu, almost roast beef-like, gives the bowl a bit of luxurious flair without being gimmicky.

Final Thoughts
Dad’s Ramen combines story, soul, and serious ramen-making chops. There’s heart behind the concept, craft behind the broth, and comfort in the setting. It’s rare to come across a shop with this kind of origin story—and even better when the ramen lives up to it.

If you’re in Jiyugaoka and want a bowl that’s personal, well-balanced, and quietly special, Dad’s Ramen is absolutely worth the visit.
