“Ayu Ramen” is a cozy 7-seater ramen shop in Futako-tamagawa that serves delicious ginger ramen. They actually call it “ginger soba” (shouga soba) but I’d say it’s closer to ramen. And it’s freaking amazing…especially if ginger is your thing.
Ginger ramen (soba) is the only item available at lunch. They change it up at dinner, when they only serve their “ayu ramen”. This distinct ramen has a whole fish in it – an ayu fish (also known as sweetfish).
Be warned that Ayu Ramen is like sauna when you walk in. But it’s clear this heat is worth bearing the moment your food arrives.
The broth is a bit milky but not too rich or kotteri. The ginger rightfully takes over. You’ll see that in the middle of the ramen there’s deep-fried renkon (lotus root), which has a nice saku saku (crunchiness) to it. They also give you a bit of yomogi to put in your ramen if you like. Yomogi is a bitter leaf and being very potent, adds an new dimension to the broth and noodles.
In addition to the ginger soba, you can order some handmade onigiri (rice ball). Nice touch to top off your lunch.
